Professor Han Jinyoung of the College of Computing and Informatics receives the Prime Minister’s Commendation for research on AI safety and accountability

Professor Han Jinyoung of the College of Computing and Informatics received the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the “2026 Science and ICT Day” commemorative ceremony held on April 21.

The “Science and ICT Day Government Awards,” jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Communications Commission, are among the highest and most prestigious government honors granted to individuals and organizations that have contributed to the advancement of information and communication technology (ICT) and national innovation. The awards are particularly meaningful in that they comprehensively evaluate not only research achievements but also industrial and policy impact as well as contributions to the nation.

Professor Han is a leading researcher in the field of AI safety and accountability (Responsible AI) and has consistently conducted research to realize trustworthy AI technologies in high-risk environments such as healthcare. In particular, by combining multimodal data-based AI modeling with human-centered design, Professor Han has systematically analyzed potential errors and biases that may arise in real clinical and social environments and proposed methodologies to mitigate them.

In addition, through international collaborative research, Professor Han has explored the social impacts and ethical issues of artificial intelligence in depth, expanding the academic foundation for the safe and responsible use of AI beyond technological development. This research is recognized as a key technology for ensuring the reliability of AI in high-risk areas such as healthcare, mental health, and social decision-making.

Professor Han has also focused on connecting research outcomes to real-world applications. Through collaboration with public and industrial sectors, Professor Han has verified the applicability of AI technologies and presented directions for their safe use in high-risk environments, thereby extending academic achievements to strengthening national competitiveness and advancing the ICT ecosystem.

This Prime Minister’s Commendation represents comprehensive recognition of Professor Han’s contributions to the nation and society through leading research in AI safety and accountability, international collaboration, and the development and dissemination of trustworthy AI technologies in high-risk domains.

Professor Han stated, “I believe this award is thanks to my fellow researchers, students, and the support of the university,” and added, “I will continue to contribute to the development of safe technologies by conducting research that considers the reliability and social responsibility of artificial intelligence.”
